Slowburn
FAQ
Last updated 2026-05-14.
The questions we get most, answered plainly. If something here is out of date, or you want an answer we have not written yet, ping us on Discord or email saltyraindev@gmail.com.
Looking for how something works, not why? The wiki is the full reference: characters, personas, lorebooks, chat tools, memberships, and more.
What makes Slowburn different from other chatbot sites?
Slowburn is built for long-form roleplay, not feed-scrolling. Characters remember things across chapters, relationships move at a plausible pace, and the prose is tuned for readers who care about voice and pacing instead of one-shot novelty replies.
How does the site make money right now?
It does not. We are in alpha, the founders are eating the bill, and the only monetization on the roadmap is a paid tier for power users once usage grows enough to force the question. When that tier exists, it will be additive: existing free messaging is the floor, and we will not pull it back to push you onto a plan.
What does "Alpha" mean for the product right now?
Alpha is our way of saying: the foundation is in, the writing is serious, the bones of the product are not going to change, but the edges are still being filed down. You will hit jank. Streaming may stutter. The occasional toast will mean what it says.
We ship fixes fast. If something is broken in a way that ruins your session, tell us on Discord and we will usually have eyes on it the same day.
Are you going to sell my data?
No.
Will you ever change your mind about that?
If we ever land in a position where the choice is genuinely between selling user data and shutting the site down, we will tell you, in plain English, that the choice exists. We will not quietly flip a toggle in the privacy policy and hope no one reads the diff. That is the worst version of this industry, and we have no interest in joining it.
What happens when I delete my account?
Your profile, follows, and personal settings are erased. Anything you have published (characters, stories, lorebooks) stays live on Slowburn under an unnamed author so other readers’ ongoing chats do not collapse. If you want a specific published work removed, ask us on Discord and we will take it down.
Who built this?
We are two indie devs building Slowburn in the open. No investors, no board, no growth team setting the roadmap. Just two people who use this product and intend to keep using it.
Saltyrain has spent close to eight years roleplaying, mostly on Discord. The shape of Slowburn comes from those nights: long arcs, characters who remember, prose that earns its pace.
