Slowburn
Privacy Policy
Last updated 2026-05-14.
We try to keep our handling of your information small and honest. This page describes what we collect, why, who we share it with, and what you can do about it.
1. Overview
Slowburn is an AI roleplay platform. Running it requires a small amount of information about you: an account, the things you create, and basic technical details about how you reach the site. This policy describes how we handle that information.
2. What we collect
2.1 Account information
Account creation runs through an external authentication provider. When you sign up, the provider collects your email address (or your identifier from a social login, such as Google or Discord), a hashed password if you set one, and basic profile data. We receive a stable user identifier and the email address you authenticated with. We do not see your password.
2.2 Content you create
We store the companions you make, the stories you start, the messages you send to companions, the lorebooks you build, the personas you define, and the comments or posts you publish. Some of this is necessary for the service to work at all; some of it is there so we can keep your stories going across sessions.
2.3 Usage data
We log basic technical information about how the service is used: request paths, response status codes, timing, error traces, and aggregate counts of events (sign-ins, messages, model invocations). We use this to keep the service running and to fix things when they break.
2.4 Local browser storage
Some preferences and gating decisions are stored in your browser rather than on our servers. See section 5 for the list.
3. How we use it
We use the information described above to:
- Operate the service: sign you in, save your stories, generate replies, surface notifications.
- Improve the service: investigate bugs, evaluate prompts, measure load, decide what to build next.
- Enforce our policies: investigate reports, screen content for compliance with the Content Policy and Community Guidelines.
- Communicate with you: send essential service messages and, with your consent, occasional product updates.
We do not sell your information to third parties. We do not use the content of your conversations to advertise to you.
4. Third parties
Operating Slowburn relies on a small set of external service providers for things like authentication, AI inference, hosting, and operational telemetry. Each is bound by its own privacy and data-handling terms. Where a provider offers a no-retention option for our traffic, we use it.
For the current list of providers and what data each receives, contact us at saltyraindev@gmail.com.
5. Cookies and local storage
Slowburn does not set third-party advertising cookies. Our authentication provider sets session cookies that are essential for signing you in. We use the browser's local storage for the following:
sb-signup-agreement-v1- whether you have agreed to our policies during signup. Set when you check the boxes on the pre-signup splash.- Theme, sidebar collapse state, reading-font preference, and other UI settings.
You can clear local storage at any time through your browser. Doing so will reset the items above and may require you to re-confirm.
6. Data retention
We retain your account information and the content you create for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove personal data linked to it within 90 days, with the following exceptions:
- Aggregate, non-identifying telemetry and analytics may be retained.
- Content you have published as a creator (companions, stories, lorebooks) may be preserved on the platform under an unnamed author, unless you ask us to remove it specifically.
- Records we are required to keep by law, including for fraud investigation, may be retained for the period required.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct it if it is wrong.
- Delete it (subject to the exceptions in section 6).
- Export a copy in a portable format.
- Object to certain processing or withdraw consent where we rely on it.
To exercise any of these rights, email saltyraindev@gmail.com from the address linked to your account. We may need to verify your identity before acting on the request.
8. Children
Slowburn is not directed to children and is not for use by anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we discover that an account belongs to a minor, we remove the account and delete the associated data. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact saltyraindev@gmail.com so we can act on it.
9. Security
We follow standard practices to protect the information we hold: encrypted connections, scoped access, audited dependencies. No system is perfectly secure. If you become aware of a vulnerability or a breach, please contact us at saltyraindev@gmail.com.
10. International transfers
Slowburn is operated using infrastructure that may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States and the jurisdictions where our vendors are based. By using the service, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in those locations, subject to the protections described in this policy.
11. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be surfaced before they take effect. The "last updated" date in the footer indicates when this policy was last revised.
12. Contact
For any privacy-related question, request, or complaint, please contact us at saltyraindev@gmail.com.
